In this master’s thesis, you will compare architectural patterns, measure the impact on code quality and productivity and examine how developers and AI can work more effectively together.

AI assistants like GitHub Copilot and Claude Code are increasingly being used in software development. However, their effectiveness strongly depends on the context they can extract from the code.
Software architecture plays a crucial role in this. A well-structured project makes it easier for both developers and AI to understand the intent and coherence of the code. Which architectural patterns support this best? And what does this mean for developer productivity?
The Assignment
Investigate the impact of software architecture on the effectiveness of AI assistance in development. Compare multiple architectural patterns, such as Domain-Driven Design, Onion Architecture, Horizontal Feature Slicing and Vertical Feature Slicing, based on how well an AI assistant generates relevant and correct code suggestions. Measure and compare both the quality of AI output and developer productivity and experience. Analyze the interaction between humans and AI assistants and provide recommendations for architectural choices that improve collaboration with AI.
